Meet the Author:
Linda Watters Gosey
Linda Watters Gosey. is one of America’s unsung community heroes—an extraordinary woman whose story, strength, and service have shaped countless lives, yet whose journey has rarely been told. Born into a world marked by abuse, trauma, and overwhelming adversity, Linda rose from the depths of unimaginable hardship to build a life defined by purpose, education, and service.
As a young girl, Linda endured layers of pain, but she transformed her suffering into strength. She became a first-generation college graduate, earning multiple degrees, certifications, and honors, defying every barrier placed in her path. Her greatest role, however, was as a warrior mother, raising three Black sons in East Oakland during the 1990s and early 2000s—one of the most dangerous eras in the city’s history. With little to no resources, she shielded her boys from the surrounding crime, violence, and degradation, teaching them resilience, integrity, faith, and purpose.
While battling her own wounds, Linda became a community counselor, advocate, and pillar of hope, mentoring youth, supporting families, and empowering everyday people to build productive, positive lives. She shattered the cliché “hurt people hurt people” by taking her own pain and repurposing it to heal, restore, and uplift those around her. To this day, her impact can be traced through generations of young people, families, educators, and community members whose lives she changed—often without recognition, payment, or applause.
